Bruce Johnstone
Managing Director
Bruce Johnstone is a Commercial and Criminal Law litigator and reputable Court advocate. Whilst managing the Practice as a whole, his work focus is on Building and Construction Disputes, Debt Recovery, Insolvency and providing clients with strategic advice on asset protection.

He also represents clients who are charged with the most serious of Criminal Law offences.

Bruce has strong values and is a true believer in loyalty and commitment, as evidenced by the long tenure of staff that is employed by the Practice and the enduring relationships he continues to maintain with clients, many of whom have stuck with him since day one.

Bruce has vast experience appearing in all the State and Federal Courts, as well as Tribunals, such as the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (“QCAT”), Mediations and confidential conferences.

He has a wealth of experience in challenging and reviewing the decisions of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (“QBCC”) for many different types of trades. This includes making Applications for clients to be categorised as a “Permitted Individuals” under the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 (Qld), allowing them to continue to work as licensed builders after, for example, their Building Company is forced into liquidation.

Bruce’s successful Court and Tribunal results are a direct consequence of his experience, ability to clearly define the issues and being able to plead/respond to each allegation in a clear, concise and thoughtful manner.

In 2013, Bruce became a registered Adjudicator under the now repealed Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 [now known as the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld)]. Since then, he has adjudicated many building and construction disputes.

Bruce uses his experience, skills and technical knowledge to advise and represent clients, (individuals, business, and companies throughout Australia), as Claimants or Respondents alike. He says that it is extremely important to have such knowledge in order to protect the individual client’s rights and advise them in the correct manner, to avoid costly decisions being made.

Bruce has close to thirty (30) years legal experience and has a forensic background to ensure that attention to detail is achieved in every matter. This forensic background assists him greatly in representing clients in serious Criminal Law matters, regularly challenging evidence submitted by the Prosecution.

Bruce is very community focused. He has sat as one of the voluntary board members of the Redland Bombers NEAFL Football Club, coached a junior AFL team and sponsors local junior and senior sporting teams as well as the Redland Bay Golf Club, schools and special needs children.

Bruce is extremely down to earth and clients respect his straight to the point approach. Contact Bruce directly if you need advice or representation.
